               Depleted Uranium

There's possibly one threat that tops all others both in gravity and because it's been

deliberately concealed from the public - never discussed, explained or had any action

taken to remediate it. It's the global threat from the toxic effects of depleted

uranium (DU), and like global warming, DU has the potential to destroy all

planetary life. How can something so potentially destructive be hidden and

ignored and why?

Is an Armament Sickening U.S. Soldiers?

August 12, 2006 6:57 PM EDT

NEW YORK - It takes at least 10 minutes and a large glass of orange juice to wash down

all the pills - morphine, methadone, a muscle relaxant, an antidepressant, a stool softener.

Viagra for sexual dysfunction. Valium for his nerves.

Four hours later, Herbert Reed will swallow another 15 mg of morphine to cut the pain clenching

every part of his body. He will do it twice more before the day is done.

Since he left a bombed-out train depot in Iraq, his gums bleed. There is more blood in his urine,

and still more in his stool. Bright light hurts his eyes. A tumor has been removed from his thyroid.

Rashes erupt everywhere, itching so badly they seem to live inside his skin. Migraines cleave his

skull. His joints ache, grating like door hinges in need of oil.

There is something massively wrong with Herbert Reed, though no one is sure what it is. He believes

he knows the cause, but he cannot convince anyone caring for him that the military's new favorite

weapon has made him terrifyingly sick.

Uranium’s Effect On DNA Established

7 April 2006
The use of depleted uranium in munitions and weaponry is likely to come under intense

scrutiny now that new research that found that uranium can bind to human DNA. The

finding will likely have far-reaching implications for returned soldiers, civilians living in

what were once war-zones and people who might live near uranium mines or processing facilities.

Uranium Bombing In Iraq Contaminates Europe

By Bob Nichols

28 March, 2006
SF Bay View

Nine days after the start of the American president's 2003 "shock and awe" uranium bombing

campaign in Baghdad, an invisible radioactive uranium oxide gas cloud swept through Britain's

towns and countryside and throughout Europe.

Respected scientists reported on the unrevealed gas cloud after conducting research on specialized

high volume air filters in England. Dr. Chris Busby and Saoirse Morgan stunned Europe in a Sunday

Times of London article on Feb. 19, 2006. Their scientific paper, released March 1st, 2006, [1] proved

the event. With all the vigor of delusional drunkards, British nuclear and military spokesmen predictably

denied the reality of an invisible radioactive cloud.

The military claimed that a Chernobyl-like event in the area was probably responsible, but no explosive

meltdowns of operating reactor cores have been reported or observed in 2006 anywhere in the world.

Evidence of the truth of the gas cloud panicked the military into frantic, irrational, ludicrous denials.

The military spin was later refined and the new Chernobyl claim quietly dropped.

Depleted Uranium For Dummies

By Irving Wesley Hall

23 March, 2006
Notinkansas.us

Under the direction of Secretary of Defense Cheney, the 1991 Gulf War began with a

"shock and awe" bombing campaign that destroyed large biological laboratories, chemical

plants, and nuclear enrichment facilities, most of them around Baghdad. Many sites were

illegally supplied by the Reagan-Bush administration, in which both Dick Cheney and Donald

Rumsfeld served, so the United States government knew their locations.

Biological, chemical and nuclear weapons damage the bodies of soldiers in distinct ways. The

first employs deadly bacteria and viruses to cause known illnesses. The second uses poisonous,

or toxic, substances to attack the body's chemistry. Nuclear weapons, such as depleted uranium (D.U.),

were unimaginable before World War II. They attack the body with invisible radioactive energy that,

as you will soon read, produces a wider variety of symptoms that develop over a longer period of

time. Radioactive heavy metal particles embedded in the body are both radioactive and toxic.

Depleted Uranium - US
Lung Cancer Rates Soar

From Karl W B Schwarz
kwbschwarz2@snet.net
3-9-6

On the March 8, 2006 edition of the CNN American Morning program with Miles O'Brien

and Soledad O'Brien, they made a startling announcement.  On average there are 175,000

new cases of lung cancer each year in the United States.  For just the months of January

and February 2006 there are 172,000 confirmed, newly diagnosed cases of lung cancer.

This is not just a little spike on the charts and much worse news is coming.  That is already

averaging this year about 6 times the normal incidence of new lung cancer cases in a year.

They tried to attribute it to second hand smoke, but second hand smoke and

cigarettes are nothing compared to being exposed to Depleted Uranium ("DU")

and particulates created by DU explosions.  You can smoke for 30 years and not

do the damage that DU can do to you in 30 days.

Depleted Uranium Measured in British Atmosphere

from Battlefields in the Middle East

February 24, 2006
By Leuren Moret

The Sunday Times Online, February 19, 2006, reported on a shocking
scientific study authored by British scientists Dr. Chris Busby and
Saoirse Morgan: "Did the use of Uranium weapons in Gulf War 2 result in
contamination of Europe? Evidence from the measurements of the Atomic
Weapons Establishment (AWE), Aldermaston, Berkshire, UK". The highest
levels of depleted uranium ever measured in the atmosphere in Britain,
were transported on air currents from the Middle East and Central Asia; of special

significance were those from the Tora Bora bombing in Afghanistan in 2001, and the

"Shock & Awe" bombing during Gulf War II in Iraq in 2003.

Depleted Uranium - A Hidden Looming Worldwide Calamity

By Stephen Lendman

Forget about Avian (bird) flu. The threat of it becoming a pandemic is more a political scare

tactic and potential bonanza for drug company profits and its major shareholders' net worth

(including Gilead Sciences, the developer of the Tamiflu drug and its former Chairman and

major shareholder Donald Rumsfeld) than a likely public health crisis - unless you live around

infected chickens or take an unproven safe immunization shot. There are much more other

likely killer bacterial and viral threats than Avian that get little attention. Don't worry about

possible or unlikely threats. Worry about real ones. Bacteria and viruses untreatable by

anti-biotics are good examples. So is global warming and many others. But, there's possibly

one threat that tops all others both in gravity and because it's been deliberately concealed from

the public - never discussed, explained or had any action taken to remediate it. It's the global

threat from the toxic effects of depleted uranium (DU), and like global warming, DU has

the potential to destroy all planetary life. How can something so potentially destructive be

hidden and ignored and why?

Depleted Uranium-Our Government Has No Respect for Its Own Soldiers

We’re talking about Depleted Uranium (DU). DU is a cheap by-product of nuclear energy and the production of nuclear weapons. It is a heavy metal, 1.7 times more dense than lead. Artillery shells, missiles, and bombs encased in DU will penetrate practically anything – tanks, fortified bunkers, hospitals, schools. DU is also radioactive. When a Depleted Uranium shell explodes it is pyrophoric, that is, it burns intensely, sending into the air billions of microscopic, radioactive, uranium oxide particles, so fine that they can be breathed through a gas mask. They become wind born, blow everywhere, enter the water, the food chain. When they are swallowed or inhaled, they lodge in every part of a person’s body, emitting toxic radiation that damages DNA and causes cell mutations. The mutations, in turn, cause an incredible variety of cancers, birth defects, miscarriages, and debilitating conditions that resist treatment. DU is primarily made up of uranium 238, but our stockpile of it is contaminated with neptunium and plutonium which are thousands of times more carcinogenic than uranium. Children are 10 to 20 times more sensitive to the effects of radiation than adults.

Gulf War Syndrome

Mothers don't let your children join the Army, because George Bush
has dumped 3.6 Billion grams of Radioactive waste all over Iraq .
This is enough Radioactive Waste to poison more than half of the
World's Population. This is more than 500,000 times as much
radioactive dust as was spread in Hiroshima in 1945.

Depleted, it ain't!

So-called Depleted Uranium, that is!

George Lakoff, guru of "reframing." Lakoff suggested

relabeling the issue: "radioactive weaponry."  The name

"depleted uranium" was carefully selected to imply

harmlessness. "Radioactive weaponry" raises a red flag.

ICONOCLAST: Is there a danger of depleted uranium, being used in

weaponry over there, spreading by air over here?

MORET: The atmosphere globally is contaminated with it. It’s completely

mixed in one year. I’m an expert on atmospheric dust.

Radioactive Wounds of War
    By Dave Lindorff
    In These Times

http://www.inthesetimes.com/site/main/article/2298/

    Thursday 25 August 2005

Tests on returning troops suggest serious health consequences of

depleted uranium use in Iraq .

Gerard Matthew thought he was lucky. He returned from his Iraq tour

a year and a half ago alive and in one piece. But after the New York State

National Guardsman got home, he learned that a bunkmate, Sgt. Ray Ram os,

and a group of N.Y. Guard members from another unit had accepted an

offer by the New York Daily News and reporter Juan Gonzalez to be

tested for depleted uranium (DU) contamination, and had tested positive.

Matthew, 31, decided that since he'd spent much of his time in Iraq

lugging around DU-damaged equipment, he'd better get tested too. It

turned out he was the most contaminated of them all.

Matthew immediately urged his wife to get an ultrasound check of

their unborn baby. They discovered the fetus had a condition common

to those with radioactive exposure: atypical syndactyly. The right hand

had only two digits.

US Radiation In Iraq
Equals 250,000
Nagasaki Bombs

By Bob Nichols

No sir-ee, putting Four Million Pounds of Radioactive Uranium Dust (RUD)
on the ground in Iraq was a definitely "on-purpose" kind of thing. It was
not "just an accident." We, the citizens of the United States, through our
kids in the Army, did this on purpose.

When the uranium bullets, missiles, or bombs hit something or explode most
of the radioactive uranium turns instantly to very, very small dust
particles, too fine to even see. When US Troopers or Iraqis breathe even a
tiny amount into their lungs, as little as One Gram, it is the same as
getting an X-Ray every hour for the rest of their shortened life.

The uranium cannot be removed, there is no treatment, there is no cure.
The uranium will long outlast the Veterans' and the Iraqis' bodies
though; for, you see, it lasts virtually forever.

The American Legacy: Iraqi Genocide
by Greg Anderson
Mon May 30 2005

Poisoning is one of the worst ways to die, both slow and painful.
Radiation poisoning coming in the form of consumed and breathed in
uranium dust is doubly worse.

Uranium is being used in the ammo of American troops. It vaporizes and
turns to dust upon impact with it's target. It explodes in a shower of
sparks and burns. The uranium, however, does not dissappear.

It serves to work like the grinding down of a nuclear reactor core to

dust and spreading the dust into the wind. It is intended to be consumed

and enmeshed in the unwanted population and their food chain for ever.

Millions of rounds of DU have been used and continue to be used to

this effect in Iraq . Uranium's
superior penetration ability to destroy it's targets is, after all, only
second in it's ability to kill and destroy the people who consume it.

Depleted uranium dust, though not immediately deadly, is one of the worst
mutagenous substances ever invented by man.

Depleted Uranium -- Our Worst Nightmare

By quietalert, Truthout.com

Mon Oct 31st, 2005 at 04:59:50 AM EDT :: Iraq

Depleted uranium is a byproduct of enriched uranium, the fissile material in nuclear

weapons. It is pyrophoric, burning spontaneously on impact. That, along with its extreme

density, makes depleted uranium munitions the Pentagon's ideal choice for penetrating an

enemy's tank armor or reinforced bunkers.

When a DU shell hits its target, it burns, losing anywhere from 40 to 70 percent of its mass

and dispersing a fine dust that can be carried long distances by winds or absorbed directly

into the soil and groundwater.

Depleted uranium's radioactive and toxic residue has been linked to birth defects, cancers,

the Gulf War Syndrome, and environmental damage.
